Module 4: My Analysis of "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" by Sam Spratt
Here we go alright
todays artwork we are analyzing an album cover it’s called “Confessions of a
Dangerous Mind” by Sam Spratt. Spratt is a Brooklyn based illustrator and has
worked with a verity of clients from Netflix, National Geographic, Angry Birds,
and many more.
As for the artwork let’s talk about it. In this artwork we see a man in the center with short black hair and blue eyes that look as if they are rolling to the back of his head. I would say that our vanishing point would be the tip of his nose. On the right side of his face, it looks as if it is disintegrating and within those lines they seem to appear as contour lines. Within this disintegration his red skeleton is ripping out of his body with yellow eyes. He is wearing a white t-shirt with a robot in the middle with a little broken heart on the left corner of the square and he is also wearing a red jacket with by the look of the logo could be adidas but maybe because of copyrights he wrote anxie under the logo. With his right hand he is holding a cellphone that is turned on with a yellow screen and a red broken heart in the middle of the screen and on his wrist, he has a gold watch. His left hand is holding up a peace sign with the tips of his fingering tips dripping down yellow paint and if you travel further down his hand underneath his wrist you can see a little piece of a tattoo he has. For me the analysis of this artwork seems to have a very deep meaning. I think that we as humans tend to get so caught up with our phone. That being we are on social media like Instagram or snapchat or even twitter we get so stuck on that little screen in front of us that we forget what other beautiful things we have to see in life. Let me explain, when we are on our phones, we get so caught up about how we look in a picture or even if we have the perfect caption and I feel as if we are losing a touch within ourselves. Now the color yellow we tend to associate with happiness and its seen on the phone, the eyes of the skeleton, and even on his fingers, Now like I said the skeleton is leaving the guys body maybe it could mean that because of everything we see on social media, the good, the bad, but mostly it tends to focus on the bad parts. This could be that because of what we see a little bit of happiness seems to be taken away from us.

Sam! This is awesome! I really enjoy this picture along with your detailed meaning of it. And I must say, I completely agree! I think the way you dove into the colors along with the harsh reality of social media worked so well! My question is: is there a way you think that people can break their "addiction" to social media? And do you think people would think better of themselves if they weren't so concerned about likes? Great job!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the best way I can describe this artwork is cool. Its a very interesting piece that can be interpreted in different ways. I like the way you described the art and your interpretation of it. I really liked that you explained your line of thinking more, it really helped me see your train of thought. What made you pick this picture?
ReplyDeleteHey Kelly, this is a great piece of art to analyze! I really enjoy how you described that the painting has a deeper meaning being that we are so caught up in our technology. I totally agree that this is what the artist tried to get across and that we loose sight of what is right in from of us. Great Job!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great new invigorating piece of artwork. I love the colors used within and how they are used to possibly help understand the deeper meaning behind the art and how we interpret it. I agree that it it using the direction of colors can direct us into believing that we are almost robotic in how we use technology and also the time directed towards it. At the end though great post and excellent choice.
